“What I hear, I forget; what I see, I remember; what I do, I understand” – Confucius

For all the teachers, this ones for you!!

How do you ensure knowledge retention in students?
How deep and long lasting is learning?
How can students retain to recall and apply?

Remembering something depends on how we interact with it. Through experience we know that we remember something better when we have some or most of these inputs.

Retention is the act of storing and retrieving what is learned. We as teachers need to consciously develop retention. It may be Short Term, Long Term or Permanent. Teaching should focus on promoting long term or permanent memory. For this, we need to provide meaning, demonstrate models, give opportunity for practice, and make the learning experience positive.
