Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, fondly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, was a towering figure in Indian history. He was a champion of social justice and the chief architect of India’s constitution.
Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891, in the town of Mhow in present-day Madhya Pradesh.
Ambedkar was born into a Dalit family, belonging to the untouchable Mahar caste, which faced severe discrimination and oppression in Indian society. Despite facing numerous challenges, he pursued his education relentlessly.

Throughout his life, Ambedkar fought for the rights of Dalits and other marginalized communities, challenging the orthodox social order that promoted discrimination and inequality.
As the chairman of the drafting committee, he played a pivotal role in shaping the guiding principles of independent India. His vision for a democratic, inclusive and egalitarian society is enshrined in the constitution, which guarantees fundamental rights and social justice for all citizens. His birthday, 14 April, is celebrated as Ambedkar Jayanti across the country, commemorating his contributions to nation-building and social reform.
